Our menu is a gateway to the historic Lanna kingdom, which once graced the lands of Upper Northern Thailand. Known as the “Land of a Million Rice Fields,” Lanna’s distinct heritage, culture, and gastronomy date back over 700 years, marking a vivid tableau of flavors shaped by a blend of Shan, Burmese, Laotian, and Yunnanese influences. These regions contribute to the unique taste profile of Lanna cuisine, celebrated for its rich, deep flavors.
Authentic Northern Thailand food centers around glutinous rice, a grain that pairs wonderfully with the region’s unique flavors. Here, bold and sometimes sour spices dance with pungent fermented ingredients, creating a wonderful umami experience. These flavors represent the essence of traditional food in Thailand, particularly from the Lanna region.
North is a passion project driven by owners with deep roots in Northern Thailand and extensive culinary experience. Built almost a century ago, our restaurant has been meticulously restored to reflect the glory of its original architecture, with interior decorations that pay homage to Lanna heritage with a contemporary twist.
